Despite having a simple dictionary meaning, menarche is not a simple experience. Menarche is an occurrence in every woman’s life that is followed by pain, and an element of surprise. An occurrence which is not frequently spoken of and even looked upon as a taboo in a number of societies. The unfamiliarity with the occurrence brings with it shame and embarrassment of what is only a natural phenomenon in women’s body.
